What does naturopathic prescription medicines mean?

The Herb Centre specialises in prescribing and dispensing prescription only medicines which includes liquid herbal extracts, vitamins and minerals, and other supplements not available elsewhere.

Prescription only medicine means only qualified health care practitioners can dispense these health products. Our clinic and dispensary staff are highly qualified naturopaths, medical herbalists, and holistic nutritionists. We will write a prescription for you when we recommend one of these products after assessing that it is suitable and safe for you. It is really important you keep your current prescription on hand and updated by your practitioner.

Find out more on our prescription medicines page.

How long do I stay on this treatment?

This depends on the condition and the severity. Acute treatments may only require two to three weeks, where more chronic health issues may require three months or longer. We often will recommend ongoing preventative treatment to maintain wellness and reduce health risks.

What drug interactions do I need to know about?

Natural medicines are generally very safe. There are certain conditions and medications where caution is advised. Please let us know if you are on any medications or have medical conditions. Getting professional advice from your naturopath or herbalist is important. Always follow the recommended dosage prescribed by your health professional.

When should I make an appointment with a Naturopath?

There are many reasons for making an appointment with one of our Naturopaths:

  • To asses specific health conditions, more in-depth investigations, and to find underlying causes of health problems.
  • For an overall health check, in order to maintain health and prevent potential health disorders.
  • To promote wellness and well being

Our Dispensary staff are highly qualified naturopaths, medical herbalists, and holistic nutritionists who give advice and dispense medicines for many health conditions. However, we can also advise you if one of our practitioners would better suit your specific needs and when you should book an appointment.

What is the difference between a herbalist, naturopath, holistic nutritionist, and homeopath?

Each of these natural health care professionals approach health in a similar way. They concentrate on treating the client, rather than the disease. They promote primarily a natural healing process, providing remedies to assist the patient to regain health. Each have a primary focus except for naturopaths who are trained in many modalities including nutrition and medical herbalism.

The Herb Centre Clinic has Naturopath and Medical Herbalist available. In our Dispensary and Store, we have a naturopath and medical herbalist at your service.

Naturopaths - A practitioner of naturopathic medicine aims to educate and empower you in your health issues and focuses on finding the underlying cause. They can give you practical as well as medical advice on how you can treat your health problems. Naturopathic medicine encompasses various healing methods with a focus on nutritional and herbal therapy.

Medical HerbalistsA Medical Herbalist is a practitioner trained in the philosophies, principles, and practice of western herbal medicine, nutrition and medical science. They prescribe and dispense plant medicines and natural nutritional supplements in a safe and effective manner using professional, medicinal herbs and nutrients to support body functions and improve health.

Holistic Nutritionists - A Holistic Nutritionist is trained on using food and natural nutritional supplements to correct deficiencies and promote healing. They prescribe dietary recommendations based on each person's unique health and dispense mainly prescription-only nutrients from our professional ranges.

Homeopaths - A Homeopath specialises in homeopathy using potentiated forms of natural remedies. Homeopathic medicines, like herbs and nutrients, stimulate the body to heal itself. Our Store carries carefully selected homeopathic products.
