THERAPIES & TREATMENTS

We provide a diverse range of natural therapies including naturopathic medicine, herbal medicine, nutritional medicine and massage therapy.

Naturopathic Medicine

A practitioner of naturopathic medicine aims to educate and empower you in your health issues and focuses on finding the underlying cause. They can give you practical as well as medical advice on how you can treat your health problems. The integration of all types of medicine is respected and practised.

Naturopathic medicine traces its philosophy back to Hippocrates, circa 400 BC. It is a system medicine which emphasises diagnosing the underlying cause of disease. It focuses on the maintenance of health and prevention of disease and naturopaths have a profound belief in the ability of the body to heal itself.

Naturopathic medicine encompasses various healing methods with a focus on nutritional and herbal therapy. Our naturopaths dispense mainly professional, prescription-only medicines as these are of the highest quality and are thoroughly researched. Find out more about our professional ranges here

A naturopath is trained in herbal medicine and nutritional medicine and uses various testing methods:

Herbal Medicine

Using plants to heal goes back centuries with herbal medicine being an important part of most cultures’ medical systems.  Many drugs currently used in orthodox medicine were originally derived from plant constituents.  Therapeutic herbs will often stimulate the body’s own ability to fight infection, or correct an imbalance without the side effects commonly experienced with pharmaceutical medication.  Herbs can be used to treat all ages and can safely be used alongside pharmaceutical medication while under the care of a qualified naturopath.
Nutritional Medicine

The importance of a healthy diet cannot be emphasised enough as any nutritional deficiency can have a negative impact on overall health. Correcting nutritional deficiencies is a crucial part of any treatment plan therefore nutritional supplements are often prescribed to correct a deficiency. Following that, education on food sources that contain specific nutrients is always given in order to prevent deficiencies from developing again.

Testing Methods

Find out more about the testing methods we offer. A naturopathic practitioner may feel the need to gather more information by using one or more simple tests to help identify health conditions. The type of testing used will vary from person to person depending on their presenting health concerns and health history.

Allergy Testing

There are several different options for allergy testing. There is the common prick test where the most common allergens are exposed to the surface of the skin through a prick test causing skin reactions. Several allergens can be tested at once although it is not considered the most accurate and can be uncomfortable. Alternatively there is a blood test that has to be sent away and can take a couple of weeks to get results. This type of testing can test a larger range of allergens (food only).

Our clinic offers BICOM Bioresonance therapy as a diagnostic  method that can identify allergies by reading the bodies electrical reaction to specific substances. This electro-acupuncture testing can test over 100 of the most common allergens (eg. food and environmental) and is painless, not harmful and non-invasive. Find out more about Naturopaths Maria and Vanessa who offer this testing at The Herb Centre.
